SAFETY DEVICES
Powered gates are classed as machines and are subject to regulations regarding their use. If used incorrectly or basic safety rules are ignored, they can be dangerous and cause severe injury or even death. Before we install at set of powered gates, we carry out a full risk assessment of the site and how the gates will be used.
Before we commission a set of automated gates we go through a comprehensive check list with the customer of potential crush areas, safety features and emergency stop procedures.
We recommend that all gates are fitted with the following additional safety devices.
Photocells on both the internal and external sides of the gates. Photocells will automatically reverse the momentum of the gate if they detect anything breaking their electronic beams.
Safety edges are designed to reverse the momentum of a gate and should be fitted where swing gates meet in centre and at edges and where there is a potential crush zone at the end of travel e.g. a wall.
With Sliding gates, safety edges should be fitted on the leading and trailing edges of the gate and on areas where say a limb could obstruct movement of the gate.
